What to Expect During Your VO2 Max Test Appointment

Our VO2 Max test takes approximately 20 minutes and includes an orientation, warm-up, test and cooldown phase. Please wear appropriate athletic clothing.

Before Your VO2 Max Test

Prepare for your VO2 Max test by avoiding strenuous exercise starting 48 hours before the test. If possible, use our VO2 Max calculator to get an estimate a week before your test. On the day of your test, avoid caffeine as it can elevate your heart rate. Additionally, avoid having a heavy meal beforehand. Make sure to wear athletic clothing to your appointment.

During Your VO2 Max Test

Your VO2 Max test begins with a 5 minute warm-up. Then every 45-60 seconds we will increase the intensity until you can no longer proceed. You’ll wear a mask to monitor your oxygen consumption, and we will track your heart rate. Throughout the test, your oxygen use and other vital responses are carefully monitored to gauge your peak performance.

Watching Your Stats

During a VO2 Max test, participants can view the following key metrics on the dashboard:
VO2: Measures oxygen consumption (ml/kg/min), indicating aerobic capacity.
Heart Rate (HR): Tracks heart rate in beats per minute (bpm).
Power (Pwr): Displays the target power output in watts.
FeO2: Indicates the percentage of oxygen in exhaled air.
Respiratory Frequency (Rf): Measures the number of breaths per minute.

After Your VO2 Max Test
